Badminton is fast and hard on the knees and ankles, so the flooring has to combine reliable grip with shock absorption. We install cushioned vinyl roll systems and polyurethane courts that give players confidence to lunge and change direction, with a controlled, non-slip surface and accurate court marking.
Courts are usually installed indoors, in sports halls, academies, schools and community centres. We can lay a single court or set out multiple courts in a hall, and mark them so each court reads clearly. The subfloor is assessed first, since a level, sound base is essential for a good finish.
We handle the whole installation: base preparation, the cushioned system, seaming, marking and edge details. Where a hall is shared with other sports, we plan the surface and marking so badminton and the other games all work on the same floor.

The build-up
A cushioned badminton court build-up
- PU wear layer. Seamless polyurethane top layer with a sprayed or textured finish.
- Elastic PU base. Cushioned polyurethane and rubber layer for energy return.
- Primer. Bonding primer that keys the system to the base.
- Asphalt or concrete base. Rigid, level base built to the required falls.
- Compacted sub-base. Prepared sub-base and drainage.

Courts can be finished in standard sport colours with clear white or contrasting lines. In multi-court halls, each court is marked consistently, and club colours or logos can be added where the hall design allows.

How many badminton courts fit in a hall?
It depends on the hall size and the clear height and run-off needed around each court. We measure the space and set out the maximum number of safe, correctly spaced courts, then mark them so each reads clearly.
Can badminton courts share a hall with other sports?
Yes. Multi-sport halls are common. We choose a surface that performs across the intended sports and mark each game in a distinct colour so badminton lines remain easy to follow during play.
Do you prepare the subfloor as well?
Yes. A level, sound subfloor is essential for a good cushioned court. We assess the existing base, address levels and any moisture considerations, and prepare it properly before laying the sports surface.
How much clearance and ceiling height does a badminton court need?
Badminton needs generous clear height above the court and run-off space around it, because the shuttle travels high. The exact requirement depends on the level of play. We check the hall height and footprint on site and set out courts that are safe and correctly spaced.
