Polyurethane (PU) Sports Flooring
We install seamless polyurethane sports flooring across the UAE for running tracks, indoor multi-sport halls and gyms, combining grip, energy return and durability.
Polyurethane gives a seamless, elastic surface that combines reliable grip with comfortable energy return, which is why it is the standard for running tracks and a strong choice for indoor multi-sport halls and gyms. Built up in layers and finished as one continuous surface, it has no seams to trip on and wears evenly under heavy use.
The system is tuned to the application. A running track needs a specific thickness and texture for sprinting and distance work; an indoor hall needs grip and cushioning for stop-start sports; a functional training area needs impact resistance. We specify the build, thickness and finish to match, on a base prepared to the correct levels and falls.
Because it is poured and formed on site, PU adapts to complex shapes and produces a clean, professional finish. Outdoor-grade systems are UV-stable for tracks and external courts, while indoor systems focus on comfort and consistency in air-conditioned halls.
Applications
Where polyurethane flooring works best
| Application | Indoor / outdoor | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Running and jogging tracks | Both | Sprayed or textured athletics finish |
| Indoor multi-sport halls | Indoor | Grip and cushioning for stop-start play |
| Gym and fitness floors | Indoor | Seamless, impact-resistant surface |
| Outdoor courts | Outdoor | UV-stable cushioned courts |
The build-up
How polyurethane flooring is built
- PU wear layer. Seamless polyurethane top layer with a sprayed or textured finish.
- Elastic PU base. Cushioned polyurethane and rubber layer for energy return.
- Primer. Bonding primer that keys the system to the base.
- Asphalt or concrete base. Rigid, level base built to the required falls.
- Compacted sub-base. Prepared sub-base and drainage.

UAE conditions
UV, heat and drainage
Outdoor PU systems are UV-stable so they resist fading and surface breakdown in strong sun, and the texture holds grip in dry heat. Correct falls and a drained base keep tracks and outdoor courts usable after rain, and indoor systems stay consistent in climate-controlled halls.
Upkeep
Maintenance and lifespan
PU surfaces need routine cleaning and occasional minor repairs to stay safe and consistent, and outdoor tracks benefit from periodic checks after heavy sun exposure. With correct care, polyurethane systems last many years, with the exact life depending on use and maintenance.

Questions
polyurethane flooring FAQs
Where is polyurethane flooring used?
It is the standard for running tracks and is widely used for indoor multi-sport halls, gyms and some outdoor courts. Its seamless, elastic surface suits sports that need grip and cushioning together, and it wears evenly under heavy use.
Is PU flooring suitable for outdoor use in the UAE?
Yes, in UV-stable grades. Outdoor polyurethane resists fading and breakdown in strong sun, and with correct falls and drainage it stays usable after rain. We specify an outdoor-grade system for tracks and external courts.
How is PU flooring different from acrylic?
Acrylic is a coating built up over a rigid base, giving a firm hard-court feel, while polyurethane is a thicker, elastic, seamless system with more cushioning and energy return. PU suits tracks and cushioned halls; acrylic suits hard courts.
Can polyurethane be installed over an existing surface?
Sometimes, if the existing base is sound, level and suitably prepared. We assess the substrate first, because a poor or moving base will affect any surface laid over it. If preparation is needed, we tell you before quoting.
