EPDM Rubber Flooring
We install wet-pour EPDM rubber flooring across the UAE for playgrounds, jogging paths and wet zones, a seamless, colour-fast safety surface poured on site.
EPDM is a coloured rubber granule bound with polyurethane and poured on site to form a seamless, cushioned surface. It is the standard safety surfacing for playgrounds because it absorbs impact from falls, and its bright, colour-fast finish makes it popular for play designs, jogging paths and splash zones.
The system is built in two layers: a black SBR rubber base set to the thickness needed for the equipment fall height, and a coloured EPDM wear layer on top. Poured and trowelled on site, it forms a smooth, non-slip surface with no seams or trip edges, which is exactly what a safe play area needs.
Because the colour runs through the granule, EPDM stays vivid, and its wide palette lets us build pathways, games and themed graphics into the surface. It drains well, cleans easily and copes with the sun, making it a practical as well as an attractive choice.

How EPDM rubber flooring is built
- EPDM wear layer. Coloured EPDM rubber granules bound with polyurethane, wet-poured on site.
- SBR base layer. Black rubber cushioning layer set to the required fall-height thickness.
- Binder course. Bonding layer keying the rubber to the base.
- Base. Asphalt, concrete or compacted aggregate base.
- Sub-base & drainage. Free-draining sub-base beneath.

EPDM granules are colour-fast and UV-stable, so the surface resists fading under strong sun, and the porous, seamless finish drains and cleans easily. For very sunny play areas we can advise on lighter colours and shade so the surface stays cooler for children.
Upkeep
Maintenance and lifespan
EPDM needs only routine cleaning and occasional minor repairs, and the seamless finish makes it easy to keep clear of debris. With correct installation and care the surface typically lasts many years; worn or damaged patches can be repaired without replacing the whole area.

What thickness of EPDM does a playground need?
The thickness is set by the critical fall height of the play equipment: taller equipment needs a thicker cushioning base. We assess the equipment on site and specify the correct depth so the surface genuinely protects children during falls.
Is EPDM the same as the black rubber base layer?
No. The coloured top layer is EPDM, bound with polyurethane, while the black base is usually SBR rubber, which is more economical for the cushioning bulk. The two are poured together as a system, with EPDM giving the colour and finish.
Does EPDM fade in the sun?
EPDM granules are colour-fast and UV-stable, so they resist fading far better than cheaper alternatives, and because the colour runs through the granule it stays vivid as the surface wears. This is why EPDM is preferred for sunny outdoor play areas.
Can EPDM be repaired if damaged?
Yes. Because it is poured on site, damaged or worn patches can be cut out and re-poured to match, without replacing the whole area. This makes it practical to maintain over a long life in busy play spaces.
