Acrylic Sports Court Flooring

Acrylic is the workhorse of outdoor court surfaces: a system of pigmented coatings built up over a rigid base to give consistent grip, controlled ball bounce and a sharp, colourful finish. We install it for tennis, basketball, pickleball and multipurpose courts, in hard-court or cushioned builds depending on the comfort you want.
The system is built in layers. A resurfacer levels and binds to the base, cushion layers are added where a softer feel is specified, then pigmented wear coats provide the colour and texture. The texture is tuned so the court grips without being harsh, and the pigments are colour-stable so the court holds its look in strong sun.
Acrylic is also the surface behind most court resurfacing. When an older court fades or cracks, recoating with fresh acrylic restores grip, colour and playability at far less cost than a rebuild. Whether new or refurbished, the base preparation and falls are what make the finished court true and long-lasting.

How acrylic flooring is built
- Colour coat. Pigmented acrylic wear coats providing the playing colour and texture.
- Cushion layers. Rubberised acrylic layers tuned for comfort where specified.
- Resurfacer. Acrylic resurfacer that levels and binds to the base.
- Asphalt or concrete base. Rigid base laid to correct falls for drainage.
- Compacted sub-base. Engineered sub-base carrying the whole system.

Acrylic pigments are chosen to resist fading under strong UAE sun, and the textured finish keeps grip in dry heat. Correct falls are built into the base so the court drains quickly, and lighter court colours can be chosen to reduce surface temperature and glare during daytime play.
Upkeep
Maintenance and lifespan
Acrylic courts need little day-to-day care beyond keeping them clean. Over several years the coating wears and colour softens, at which point a recoat restores grip and appearance. We inspect the surface and advise honestly when a recoat is genuinely due, rather than before.

What is the difference between hard and cushioned acrylic?
Hard acrylic is applied directly over the base for a firm, fast surface, while cushioned acrylic adds rubberised layers for more comfort underfoot. Cushioned systems are easier on the joints, which players value on courts used for long sessions.
How often does an acrylic court need recoating?
As a general guide, acrylic is recoated every several years, but the real interval depends on use, sun exposure and maintenance. We assess the surface on site and advise when a recoat will genuinely restore grip and colour.
Can acrylic be used indoors and outdoors?
Yes. Acrylic is most common outdoors, where its colour-stable pigments handle the sun, but it is also used indoors. The base preparation differs, but the coating system and finish work in both settings.
Can you resurface an old acrylic court?
Yes, resurfacing is a large part of what we do. We repair cracks, prepare the surface, then recoat and re-mark, which restores the court at far less cost than a rebuild. We will tell you honestly if the base needs more than a recoat.
